Word Classes
These are the 8 word classes that you need to know for the exam:
Prounoun- A word that takes the place of nouns, for example: he, she, them, there, it
Nouns- The names of things, for example people, places or objects.
Adjective- A word that describes a noun
Determiners- Identify nouns, for example: a, the, many, one, my, their
Prepositions- Tell you when: before, after, during or where something is happening under, to, up, in, on, through, beside, near.
Verb- a word used to describe an action
Adverb- Descriptive words which are used to add detail to a sentence and are frequently end in ‑ly.
Conjunction- Little words like and, but, and or. They’re used to connect concepts, clauses, or parts of sentences.
